![]() ![]() I know this must be expected behaviour but my question is:Īny good solution to not having to manually enable and disable HDR all the time? SDR content looks washed out (raised black levels?) HDR videos have crushed blacks, loss of details (didn't check for bright levels but probably lost too). SDR video content looks fine (looks as good as expected). I tried using Potplayer and MPC-BE, and different renderers, but always get the same result: I was gonna delete the post, but maybe it is good to leave it here for anyone looking for the same thing. Right after posting, ir occurred to me to look up "Potplayer remap 16-235 to 0-255" and I found out the solution: just enabled the pixel shader "remap 16_235" on Potplayer. I can still enable it on poorly encoded SDR content that has weak contrast, to make it look better.ĮDIT: Nevermind replying. When I remembered it was active I disabled it and all looked normal. SDR content looks good too because the display is not set to HDR and MadVR only kicks in when HDR content is detected and played.Īt first I had forgotten to dis-able the Pixel Shader mentioned on EDIT1 below, so the blacks were crushed. In MadVR settings, for the HDR display, I enabled the HDR passthrough and on the "this display expects the following input levels" tab, selecting "TV levels" (16-235) in my case produced the best results (no crushed blacks). Then installed and set MadVR up on Potplayer. EDIT2: An even better solution than the one described in "EDIT" below was to follow the suggestions about using MadVR renderer:įirst, I disabled the permanent HDR display setting on Windows. ![]()
